Astro Turf is gaining a lot of popularity day by day. First, it was only used in football fields and in sports, because of its striking resemblance to actual grass and its low maintenance, but now, people are opting for it in their homes and backyards too. Artificial grass has all of the qualities of real grass, but almost half the maintenance than that of real grass. Astro Turf is a huge name, when it comes to making grass fields for sports. The first ever product launched by astro turf was in 1966, where the turf was laid in the stadium of Houston. The product was launched under the name of “Chem grass” as it was not real grass, but it had all of the properties of it. It was lush green, it had the same feel as that of real grass, but it was better, more durable, robust and wouldn’t bald the field easily. Although it was a huge breakthrough for the subsidiary, the product still needed improvement. After years of refining their formula of artificial grass, the turf was a huge success, not only in the United States of America, but also all around the world. It emerged from the USA to the UK and then other parts of the world.
Artificial grass is usually made out of polyethylene, which makes the grass feel like plastic. The polyethylene is structured in such a way to make it look like grass and then the patches of grass are laid on a huge blank carpet-like canvas. The canvas is then spread across the sports fields or at people’s homes. This way of installation is way easier and it gets the job done quickly.

Artificial grass is considered to be a successful invention, as it is a perfect replacement of artificial grass, but it requires very little maintenance. A thing like this sounds too good to be true, right? There are certain drawbacks to using turfs, most of which are environmental and biological. First of all, turf or artificial grass is not part of the ecosystem. It doesn’t absorb carbon dioxide from the air, like actual grass, so it doesn’t play a role in the ecosystem cycle and keeping the environment safe. However, if you want to save cost and need a low maintenance lawn, astro turf is a great option.
